Launched by textile artist Lesli Robertson in 2018, Mekeka Designs is collaborative studio that embodies a curiosity about materials, respect for Ugandan cultural arts, and drive to innovate with fascinating fabrics and traditional textile processes.

Our founding partners are leaders in the field of arts, craft, and culture in Uganda. Josephine Musaka is a leading researcher, academic and expert on Ugandan crafts and owner of AKA Gallery in Kampala. Fred Mutebi is an internationally recognized artist, Fulbright Scholar, and barkcloth activist. Pamela Kyagera is a 20+ year veteran of the crafts sector in Uganda, lending her marketing and business expertise to each artisan she works with.
